Freshwater Bay is located in the Washington Salish Sea.  This moderately sloping site consists of moderately uneven terrain, containing a few cracks and folds.

Freshwater Bay long-term monitoring overview

Freshwater Bay is dominated by consolidated bedrock, and the area surrounding the site is comprised of a mixture of consolidated bedrock and cobble beach. The primary coastal orientation of this site is east.

Long-Term Monitoring Surveys at Freshwater Bay were established in 2014, and are done by University of California, Santa Cruz and Feiro Marine Life Center. Long-Term monitoring surveys currently target the following species: Chthamalus/Balanus (Acorn Barnacles) and Mytilus (California Mussel). Click here to view Long-Term trends at this site.
