Research Interests

I am fascinated by the ecology of kelp forests and their use as a natural resource. For my dissertation, I am interested in how environmental factors and genetics influence the morphology, chemical content, and nutrient usage in the giant kelp--the world's most widespread and fastest-growing algae. My research takes place in coastal California and Chile.

Biography, Education and Training

I received my B.S. in Biological Sciences from Cornell University in 2016. During my undergraduate career, I conducted research on estuarine shrimp parasites at the Smithsonian Environmental Research Center in Edgewater, MD; gull chicks at Shoals Marine Laboratory on Appledore Island, ME; waterbirds and rainforest frogs at field stations in Costa Rica through the Organization for Tropical Studies; and riparian songbirds and insects at Cornell University.
